Paul, two IMB missionaries & local contractor (Mario) drove three hours north to Canete to view damage & see where shelters will be delivered on Tuesday. We met with a local pastor & a mayor of a city who will provide three trucks. We developed plans to move and erect the homes. The rest of the team split up in groups of four and attended three local churches. We went to an Vapuche Indian village to a home church. The church was made up of 25% adults & 75% teenagers and elementary kids. They led the music portion of the service and Bro. Abner (the Chilean pastor) preached. His heart is for the young but is able to reach the parents also. The church is located in a former chicken house that has been converted to a church. This was truly a blessing. The people are very friendly and outgoing.
Yesterday afternoon, six of us climbed the Volcano Villarrica in the Andes Mountains. It was a beautiful trip but took every ounce of strength to climb to the snow line.
Today we will once again assemble five more Mediaguas. Tomorrow we will go to the quake area and begin installing them. It is there that we will also connect to the victims of the quake and tsunami to share the love of Jesus and give them a word of hope.
